Beastie Boys Insanity

Waaaay back in the day, I was a fan of the Beastie Boys. Their album License to Ill is a hip-hop classic, thanks to the production prowess of Rick Rubin. But beyond their sound, they also brought a sense of youthful rebellion and adolescent humor to their songs, videos, and stage show. The combination made them household names. Their subsequent albums didn’t move me as much, but every now and then, they drop a single or two that I like. While my personal jury is still out on their new release, from a musical perspective, I think this video preview is pretty hilarious. It features a star-studded cast including (but not limited to): Will Ferrell, Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Steve Buscemi, Ted Danson, Seth Rogen, Kirstin Dunst, and Orlando Bloom. I don’t believe the Beastie Boys themselves ever appear onscreen. Crazy, right? Anyway, here is the preview:

You can see the actual video (it appears that the single is actually called ‘Make Some Noise’) here on vh1.

Today is Jill Scott’s birthday, and we want to wish her a very happy one! Ever since this songstress burst on the scene she has made a lasting impression with her unique voice and signature style. You might want to send her a happy birthday card, if you are able to. In fact, this ecard, in particular, reminds me of her (shout out to Allysha Robinson!).

In honor of Jill, we’re giving you a taste of her latest release: a remake of Bill Withers’ ‘Lovely Day’. Check it out:

Music You Can Smell?

Bruno Mars Feat. Damian Marley “Liquor Store Blues”

Around here we like this Bruno Mars kid. I think he has a lot of talent, and should go far. I also dig Damian Marley…so when I first heard this track, I instantly liked it. The video is pretty straightforward…but definitely supports the song. However, when watching the video on youtube, I read the first comment and cracked up….this is what it said: “i smell weed just watching the video”. I’ll let you be the judge: can you ‘smell’ the music?

I was checking out this new Katy Perry video called “E.T.”. It features Kanye West and has an outer-space/alien theme going on. All in all, I like the track, and the video is pretty sweet. But the thing that struck me most was the alien robot who is Katy’s love interest. You get a good look at him starting around the 3:11 mark. At first glance, I thought I was looking at a real-life Jambot! I don’t know…but I might have to talk to their costume designer…a Jamgrams fan I think ;-)

One Year Better

This a cool birthday ecard duo!  We have a regular version of the card, as well as an ‘unplugged/acoustic’ version.

For the acoustic version, we’re showing a smoother, more sentimental side of Jamgrams.  ’One Year Better’ is a song that wants you to focus not on being ‘older’, but on getting ‘better’.  “Just like fine wine, you’re better with time” is what Brett Hammon croons as the acoustic guitar strums on out.  Truly something special…and the subtle graphics by Rajesh Bhavnani accompany the music quite well.  A very classy ecard.

For the regular version, we’ve got drums and a bassline, and the mood of the card feels a little more upbeat.  Hasan Odom’s graphics also add a lot of energy and humor, as they follow the life and times of someone who is a work-in-progress that keeps on getting better.

Robot Birthday

Remember the good old days of breakdancing, popping and locking?  You had your Puma or Adidas track suit with some cardboard and a boombox on the ground?  Planet Rock and Kraftwerk got heavy rotation, and a whole new culture was born.  Well, here at Jamgrams, we love electro music, and this Happy Birthday  ecard is a tribute to those glory days.  Bullzyye outdid himself on the beat – it has all of the key Kraftwerk and Planet Rock sounds, but with some updated sub bass to make the speakers rattle ;-)  Hasan took the graphics to the next level with the outer space motif and the funky robots gettin their groove on with a classic pop-lock battle!  Also, the classic 80′s video game elements really take you back to the good old days…you have got to check this one out!

Rack One Up

I don’t know what to say about this birthday ecard…other than it’s one of my favorites.  You’ve got the cool rapper with his crew wishing you a happy birthday, and their serious expressions while holding balloons is priceless!  And I love how homeboy is riding down the street with the hydraulics going crazy!  Also, the beat on this one is bumpin’, courtesy of Bullzyye.   Add Hasan Odom on the drawing board and we have what I think is an instant classic.  By all means, check it out!

All Night Long

We have a new Birthday Ecard called ‘All Night Long’ that is perfect for a night of partying and celebrating that special day.  It’s got that club/dance vibe that will make you want to hit the town as soon as you hear it! My favorite part is the end: there are a bunch of ‘snapshots’ of party experiences that make it feel like you’re looking through someone’s photo album.  Cool stuff, and a lot of fun.  You can preview ‘All Night Long’ here.

Whaddup!?

This update finds Jamgrams with a new ecard category: ‘Just Because’.  There are so many times you’d like to send someone an ecard even though there is no special occasion…just to say “hey”…or “whaddup”, for that matter.  So, we created the Just Because category and have launched it with the extremely cool “Whaddup” ecard.  Check out our hero as he evades the long arm of the law and risks life and limb to deliver a simple, yet important, message.

Thank You, Gracias!

First off, I’d like to say “Thank You”…and “Gracias” to everyone who has checked out the site and sent an ecard thus far.  We’re building this site one visitor at a time and each and every one of you matters.

Someone left a very positive comment saying they really enjoyed the Thank You, Gracias ecard because of how we show appreciation in multiple languages.  If you haven’t peeped the lyrics yet, we get out a ‘Thank You’ in the following ways:

“Thank You” – English

“Gracias” – Spanish

“Merci” – French

“Xie Xie” – Mandarin

“Mahalo” – Hawaiian

“Arigato” – Japanese

“Grazie” – Italian

“Obrigato” – Brazilian Portuguese

So, if you have someone to thank, then go ahead and send them this card, and let them know (in multiple languages) that you appreciate what they’ve done.
